Maclean Hunter Printing Plant, built 1928
210 Dundas St. W.
This formidable beauty was built the same year the company launched Chatelaine magazine. The communications giant that produces the Financial Post and Maclean’s magazine got their start in 1887 with their first rag, the delightfully named “Canadian Grocer and General Storekeeper.”
The grand entrance is guarded over by master and matron. Who they be, I haven’t the faintest idea.
I find the scale of these windows so much more awing and impressive than buildings that are nothing but glass. Though I must admit, I’d have preferred the use of regular glass over this dark variety which looks dated and, frankly, a bit tacky.
